BMW M's Electrifying Success: i4 M50 Tops Sales in Record-Breaking Year

BMW's high-performance M division had a stellar 2024, with the electric i4 M50 leading the charge as its best-selling model.

BMW's high-performance M division had its best year ever in 2024, with new figures showing a record-breaking 206,582 vehicles sold, accounting for an impressive 9.4 percent of total BMW production.

The standout performer was the electric i4 M50, which emerged as the best-selling M model. This four-door coupe, equipped with a 537 hp bi-motor drivetrain and a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, proved that electrification and performance can go hand in hand.

However, traditional combustion engine models also saw significant growth. The M2, boosted by a recent power increase to 473 hp, enjoyed a 64 percent sales lift, while the M3 Touring registrations climbed 57 percent. Overall, sales of BMW's high-performance M models grew by 8 percent to 66,805 units.

Even the controversial XM plug-in hybrid SUV, often criticized by enthusiasts, had a decent year, with sales growing 16 percent during 2024, according to BMW's figures.

As the automotive industry continues its shift towards electrification, BMW's M division has proven its ability to adapt and deliver exhilarating performance in both traditional and electric powertrains, setting the stage for an exciting future.
