Lamborghini Overtakes Bentley in Luxury Car Sales Race

Lamborghini surpassed Bentley in sales for the first time in 2024, marking a significant shift in the luxury car market.

In a surprising turn of events, Lamborghini outsold Bentley in 2024, marking a significant shift in the luxury car market. According to the Volkswagen Group's full sales results, Bentley's deliveries fell by a staggering 21.5 percent to just 10,600 cars, while Lamborghini posted record sales, shipping 100 more vehicles than its internal competitor.

Historically, Bentley has always been way ahead of Lamborghini in sales within the Volkswagen Group era. In 2016, before the introduction of the Lamborghini Urus SUV, Bentley sold roughly triple the number of cars compared to Lamborghini. Even in 2014, the last year before the Bentayga SUV, Bentley sold about 11,000 cars, four times more than Lamborghini.

The discontinuation of Bentley's venerable W-12 engine and the launch of the new Continental GT likely contributed to the sales decline. Both companies plan to expand their lineups with electric vehicles, but the Volkswagen Group's high-end brands have pushed back their EV launches, potentially affecting future sales.
